Swedish cork sawn timber inventory has reached its lowest level in a decade, but exports to China have shown significant growth

According to the latest data released by the Swedish Forestry Agency, softwood inventory in Sweden decreased by 26% to 2.1 million cubic meters in September, reaching the lowest level in a decade. At the same time, there is a shortage of softwood sawn timber in all timber harvesting areas.

Unlike the inventory level of cork sawn timber, the inventory of pulpwood remains at last year's level. Among them, cork pulp, including spruce pulp, increased by 4%. And the inventory of Hardwood Pulp and wood also increased significantly by 40% year-on-year to 800000 cubic meters.

However, the inventory level of softwood sawn timber in Sweden has decreased, but exports to China have significantly increased.
According to Chinese customs data, in the first nine months of this year, Sweden's exports of softwood sawn timber to China increased significantly by 72.27% year-on-year to 620000 cubic meters; The export value increased by 34.55% year-on-year to 880 million yuan.

In terms of arrival prices, in the first nine months of this year, the average arrival price of softwood sawn timber imported from Sweden in China continued to decline, and in September, it reached the lowest level for the year to date, a year-on-year decrease of 31.87%.

But from a quarterly perspective, in the third quarter of this year, Sweden's total timber exports to China reached 100000 cubic meters, a decrease of 57% compared to the previous quarter. Among them, the export volume of cork sawn timber is only 27300 cubic meters.

Nevertheless, from the overall import situation, the first half of the year was the month of concentrated arrival of Swedish timber, which remained basically consistent with last year's import situation. And compared to the same period this year, Sweden's timber exports to China have achieved significant growth, with an increase of 77%.
